AN ATYPICAL RéSUMÉ

Ramble Manifesto Video 2016 - “Stories Untold” written by Quin Boardman

Personal ETHOS:

I believe creation, particularly through the many forms of the arts, to be the most effective method to communicate larger-than-life cosmic abstractions along with the most delicate, finite and subtle of emotions. Paradigm-shifting stories, ideas and perspectives lay otherwise dormant until one picks up a tool of creation and begins shaping– ‘for we were not meant to be timid, but rather to proclaim these, the stories untold.’

EDUCATION:

2011–2016 : University of Utah - Bachelor of University Studies - Visual Narrative Studies

  • Working closely with a mentor from the College of Fine Arts as well as other department heads and chairs from different colleges throughout the University, we created the degree entitled “Visual Narrative Studies” – combining programs from the graphic design, fine arts, film, communications, anthropology and other areas of study.

  • emphasis in design thinking, graphic design principles and visual communication as an essential language

  • focus on the usefulness and effectiveness of visual communication and arts on societies and cultures

IN PERPETUITY : As a life-long learner, I’ve found a deeper dive into fine art-making a fulfilling trifecta of problem solving, self-expression, and communication

ART:

SURROUNDED BY ART : Because my mother is both a talented artist as well as a resourceful creative, out-of-the-box artful thinking is really a core aspect of my identity. I have been lucky to be mentored by inspiring oil painters, potters, photographers, printmakers, and watercolorists along the way. Many have become life-long friends.

2016–PRESENT : A new frontier in printmaking

  • While I’ve always been intrigued with printmaking processes since I was very young, it wasn’t until I started trying my own hand at relief cuts, monotypes, screen prints and other obscure and experimental methods that I really began to love the process of creating with more than a lens. Printmaking opened the door for a multi-disciplinary endearment for art making!

  • One of my relief pieces was selected for the 12th Annual International Art Competition themed “All Are Alike Unto God” for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - entitled “Repairing the Halo (of publican, sinner, pharisee and saint)

2023–PRESENT : Bountiful Davis Arts Center - Board of Directors

REAL-LIFE SOCIAL MEDIA : Seeking a way to tell stories on a larger scale, I started making engineering prints of images and quotes to paste on urban walls. This led to a desire to break beyond the limited perspective of social media on a phone screen and create real-life social art gatherings; pop-up art shows and parties held in downtown SLC for a series we called The Roaming Shutter. It was in these experiments in sharing art and ideas that I recognized the true potential voice held within art.

CONSTRUCTION : Even though I’m not a contractor or architect by trade, I can’t help but design and build. I just finished a 4 year remodel and addition of our home in Bountiful, Utah, with art being a guiding characteristic throughout the entire project. I’m also currently renovating a building on Main Street Bountiful to be surrounded by even more motivating art, artists and creativity.
